President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to visit the White House.

He added that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.

The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”

Mourners came together over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been working with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid law enforcement in the capital.

She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her former high school, stated to the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to support those in need.”

Legal Measures and Government Adjustments

Authorities have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of attempted murder while armed.

The tragedy prompted the government to pause refugee claims and halt issuing entry permits to possessors of travel documents.

Status of Andrew Wolfe

Wolfe, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.

He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey said on television.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.

Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” he addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
