The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has seized attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo adventure seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman containing multiple personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four distinct personas, each with unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can take over at will, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips show the main character navigating a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uncomfortable?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop revolves around managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's anxieties become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the lobby have large blooms where their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is real."

Once players have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can deceive or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one standing could be a fake. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on platforms.
