The former Liverpool manager admits coming back to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell that included Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he told his interviewer: “I said I will never coach a different club on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. It's plausible.”
“At 58 years old, that means the choice could be mine later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about the specific conditions would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he isn't eager toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent thus frequently a very good mood in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, superb talent. They have a strong well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, and its impact at the club. Jota lost his life in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. It was an incredible shock for all the boys as well. Not a single person might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that on a personal level is not easy. Impossible.”
