The star midfielder Functioned in a high role down the right and put in defensive duties. Displayed flashes of quality but scuffed a shot wide. Replaced towards the end by Rogers, his competition, after receiving a caution. Seven

Jarrod Bowen Had England’s clearest opportunity of the first half, his strike well saved from the opposing goalkeeper. As a teammate holding position, he was forced to provide width on the right but his crosses into the box were inconsistent. Substituted with 15 to go. Six

Harry Kane The decisive figure netting 77th and 78th goals at international level. His first a trademark opportunist's goal and his next a superb header having drifted away from his marker. Now 32, he continues to improve and England are strong contenders next summer with him up top. Eight

Eberechi Eze Had difficulty to influence play from the left. Had a good opening following a pass from a teammate but the keeper made the save. His replacement produced a bigger an impact in his place. 5/10
