England to Start the European Championship 2028 Quest at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
England’s men’s team will embark on their 2028 European Championship adventure at the Manchester City’s stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated qualification for a championship taking place in the majority of the UK and the Ireland.
The Etihad Stadium has not staged an England men’s match since eight years ago, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is expected to welcome the national team for their inaugural game on June 10, 2028.
The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Finishing second would mean commencing the knockouts at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Launch and Demonstration
The tournament was unveiled at an gathering in a London landmark on the previous evening. Key representatives from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were heckled as they approached the site by approximately 50 activists, who urged Israel to be removed from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Placards were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Tournament Fixture List
The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will feature the Dragons if they secure a place.
The national stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be played on Sunday 9 July with a kick-off time at 5:00 PM.
It is anticipated that an earlier start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from next season, will appeal to family audiences and help reach a wider spectrum of fans.
Participating Countries
The Irish team are set to play their opening match at the Aviva Stadium and the Tartan Army would do the same at Hampden Park.
All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that do not reach Euro 2028 through that route.
Venues and Elimination Phase
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine host stadiums. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the last eight staged at every host’s main arena.
The draw for the qualifiers will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a venue city last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be redeveloped in time, on a date in late 2026.
Leadership Comment
“The event will be a championship for the followers and a celebration of everything we value about the football – its emotion and ability to bring people together.”
More than three million admissions, a all-time high for a UEFA European Championship, are anticipated to be released to supporters.
