Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”

He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Discussions with The Board

When asked to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”

Familiar Issues and Player Response

Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period of this nature with performances so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
